[Canon] Ace Attorney
[Point in time taken from canon] Post Ace Attorney: Investigations

[Background]
Here

[Personality]

Two years after her initial appearance in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Ema is almost the same as she was back then: friendly, eager to show off with science, determined to become a top-notch forensic investigator, and obsessed (to an extent) with Miles Edgeworth. Still largely unconcerned with typical things girls her age might be interested in, Ema would rather gush about her new forensic analysis equipment than some lead singer in a new boy band, or something along those lines. Science is what Ema enjoys the most and, for the most part, she is pretty good at it. She's capable of helping with and instructing Phoenix how to properly investigate things with the use of luminol spray and fingerprint powder (back in 1-5), and showing Edgeworth how to track footprints with her new piece of equipment (that she incidentally used to track down Edgeworth himself. No, that's a totally normal thing to do, okay), and things of that nature. It's the drawing conclusions part that she kind of sucks at. Though Ema tries to scientifically analyze most items and situations she comes across, even jotting notes down so she remembers her findings, her conclusions are pretty out there. Her first thought upon picking up a phone that didn't have a dial tone was that the barometric pressure was causing her to be temporarily deaf, not that the phone is broken. While she's slightly better about her conclusions in AA:I, Ema is still enamored with the "power of science!" and will not hesitate to show it.

Like most 18 year old girls, Ema has her fair share of crushes on famous people. In Ema's case, though, it's not really an actor she fangirls over, it's a prosecuting attorney by the name of Miles Edgeworth. In Ema's mind, he's the perfect example of a prosecutor: calm, collected, good-looking, intelligent... anything you would want in a professional attorney, in short. Of course, though, Ema does tend to misjudge Edgeworth from time to time (does he really look like an outdoorsman to you?), and she can be a bit... creepy about her interest in Edgeworth, without really knowing it. In 1-5, she would invent scenarios about Edgeworth's daily routine and remark about what his sighs smelled like (citrus, for the record), and in AA:I, she tracks him down in Gatewater Land using SCIENCE! Ema's main goal in life is to become a forensic investigator and help prosecutors (like Edgeworth and her sister Lana, too) find evidence to make their cases airtight. After all, in Ema's opinion, the only way to properly investigate a case is scientifically.

Ema tries to be helpful, as well, especially when science is involved. After all, she did help Phoenix collect some evidence that helped get her sister Lana off the hook, and she helped Edgeworth discover the footprints of one of the costumed kidnappers in the third case in AA:I. When she sets her mind to doing something, she will stubbornly try to do whatever it is she wants to do. While Ema was confident that she will land a job in Forensics in three years at the end of PW:AA, she's a bit more realistic in AA:I, admitting that she still has a long way to go to become the sort of forensic expert that she knows she can be. That said, the thought of failure has probably never crossed her mind once, even though she's not as optimistic as she had been in the first game. In case 1-5, she stubbornly believes in Lana's innocence (despite Lana's claims to the contrary) and is determined to help Phoenix get Lana off the hook.

Like most of the assistants in the Ace Attorney games, Ema will state the obvious quite often, but in addition to doing so, she offers her own 'scientific' analysis of the obvious, often going off on completely unrelated tangents based on what she thinks is the scientific truth. She also tends to speak what's on her mind relatively often, as well, occasionally getting in trouble for doing so (like when she called Edgeworth's car gaudy when he was standing near-by). Though she's gotten better at this, her remarks in AA:I are still rather out there. However, rather than offer a 'scientific analysis,' she has taken up the habit of spouting off random science-ish phrases (when presented with a piece of evidence she doesn't have any information on), which really, is probably just as bad.

[Abilities]
Scientific investigation! She knows how to use a great deal of tools used in forensic analysis, it's just her conclusions after analyzing things that sometimes need work.

[Other important stuff]
She likes the Steel Samurai and the Pink Princess, as well as wearing different sorts of pins on her outfits. She will also retain memories from previous stays in Somarium.

[Sample post]
[First Person]
- You see a bloody knife on the floor. What do you do or think?
Well, even without using science, it's pretty clear that a bloody knife sitting on the floor is proof something happened! So naturally, the only thing to do in that situation is keep calm and examine the evidence scientifically: brushing for fingerprints, searching around the crime scene for more clues without disturbing the scene, that sort of thing! It's really what any good forensic investigator would do, you know. ...Oh, and call the police, too. That would be just as important.

- Murder. What is your opinion?
Murder... murder is something that's never okay! That's why it's up to forensic investigators like me to scientifically find decisive evidence to put the real murderers behind bars! Prosecutors like Mr. Edgeworth and my sis depend on reliable investigations, you know. Even Defense Attorneys like Mr. Wright benefit from a proper, scientific investigation.

- You have two options: either save your friend who is hanging from a cliff, or chase after the bad guy who put them in a position. If you choose the former, the bad guy will get away and it will be hard to catch him. If you choose the latter, the cliff will crumble and the friend will fall to the spiky rocks below. What do you do and why?
Of course I'd pick to save my friend! Anyone would! Besides, even if the criminal that did this is hard to catch, that doesn't mean it's impossible to catch him again, especially with any number of clues he might have left at the scene of the crime. We just have to find those clues! Once my friend is safe, of course.

- You discover someone stalking you. Do you call the police or deal with it yourself?
Naturally the police would be better equipped to deal with a situation like that, but... well, I'm sure they wouldn't mind if I investigated a bit on my own, right? Scientifically speaking, there could always be things they might have missed that it would be up to me to find, right?

- Do you have any future goals or dreams? What are they?
I'm currently studying forensic investigation in Europe! One day, I'll become a top-notch forensic investigator and help find evidence for prosecutors like Mr. Edgeworth to use in court. Scientifically, of course.

- You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
Well, if I were given a mission, it would have to have been something important, right? I'm sure people would be counting on me to finish it properly, so of course I'd complete it effectively. Really, goofing off isn't an option if it's an important mission that would help people out, is it?

[Third Person]

Though she remembered being in Somarium in the past, Ema was sure investigating and seeing what had changed about the place couldn't hurt. After all, it seemed as if some changes had happened to the Somarium she remembered to make it into what it was today. The landscape seemed somewhat different, and there were most definitely different types of people in Somarium that she didn't remember being here before. There was information on the Dreamberry concerning some of the new revelations about the history of Somarium, sure, but as far as what it was like now, there was no better way to find things out than scientific investigation. ...Of course, Ema's scientific investigation was hindered by the fact that the tools she typically used for such a thing were more geared toward forensic investigation, not... just indulging one's curiosity.

She wasn't going to let that keep her down, though, since there were other ways to investigate! like taking notes, which is exactly what she did as she made her way over toward Lake Meridian and its mysterious floating mountain. She did remember the mountain being there previously, and it brought back more than a few memories she had thought she had forgotten--another oddity of Somarium's worthy of being written down. Some of those memories were fun, but others... well, the place turning into a prehistoric jungle ripe with dinosaurs wasn't exactly something she wanted to remember. Shaking her head in an attempt to clear those thoughts from her mind, Ema looked back up at the mountain itself.

"You know," she thought out loud, "scientifically speaking, it really should be impossible for a mountain to float like that. It's strange, because in other areas, Somarium is pretty much just like home, but then they have floating mountains that couldn't exist anywhere else! I wonder if it has something to do with the dreams here."

An obvious analysis, but an analysis nonetheless, so she jots it down in her totally not a nintendo DS organizer, just to keep track. Pausing for a moment, Ema opened up a new page on her organizer to write down a new list.

"Note to self: be sure to investigate giant magnets, anti-gravity machines, and dreams. Could explain floating mountain."
