Hotel Dusk is pretty far away, though. Are you sure you don't mind coming all the way here?

I don't mind at all, and the weather is fine today. [Plus she needs to get out more.]

If you're sure, then I guess that's okay! My room is [room number here], unless you want me to meet you downstairs.

I don't mind going up to your room. [She'd probably feel a little embarrassed giving her the present in a semi-public area.] So I'll be over as soon as I can.

All right, I'll see you soon, then! [She'll just be... chilling in her place until Amane shows up, just so that she doesn't miss her or anything.]

[Tra la la, it'll take her a while due to the distance. But Amane will eventually arrive at the apartment and went up to Ema's room.

[And she opens the door soon after Amane knocks, stepping aside to let the other girl in.]

That wasn't too long of a walk over here, was it?

[She steps inside, carrying a small container in one of her hand. Because of its solid colours, you can't see what's inside until the lid is off.]

No, it wasn't that long.

[The weather's fine and no one required her attention along the way.]

Oh, well that's good! Somni's a pretty big place, so I was worried it might've been a pain to come all the way over here.

It's really not a problem.

[She's used to moving around a lot while working back home. Even with her low crappy speed Plus the city isn't under a horrible lockdown, which made the trip to here generally pleasant.

She hold out the small container.]

This is your present. Because I slept through Christmas, I want to make up for missing it.

Ema takes the container when offered, a very big smile on her face as she does.]

Oh! You didn't have to do that, it's understandable, scientifically speaking, that some people might be in sleep comas during the holidays.

[just to make her not feel bad. Or something. She really is excited about the gift, though! In fact, she's looking it over from different angles while she speaks.]

Can I open this now, or would you want me to wait?

[She nods, feeling a little nervous and anxious.]

[Inside the contain is a cupcake with icing on it. The icing decoration isn't anything fancy, just a face. particularly that weird badge Ema wears]

[And open it she does! It's a very cute face on the cupcake, Ema likes it very much.]

Oh wow! Did you make this yourself?

[She nods.]

I did. I worked hard on them and they should taste good enough.

How'd you decorate it like this? I've tried to do things like that when I had to bring cupcakes or cookies into school when I was younger, and they never turned out this nice.

I practiced from cooking a lot. [Since it's just her and her father, Amane learned to cook whenever he's out.] Do you want to learn?

That might be nice! I tried cooking a bit when Lana stayed late at the office, but I usually wound up ordering food instead.

Who is Lana? A relative?

Yeah, Lana's my sister! She used to spend a lot of time down at the precinct doing work when she worked there, so sometimes I'd have to get dinner for myself.

What kind of work did she do? Police work?

That's right! She was a detective for a while, but her most recent job was as Chief Prosecutor for the district back home. [before her stint serving time for the good of society and all that]

The Chief Prosecutor? That must've been quite a transition from being the detective to the Chief Prosecutor. [And other stuff, but Amane wouldn't know about it.]

Well, she started as a detective so she would know how to better deal with evidence and how to carry out investigations on her own! Chief Prosecutor is what she really wanted to be.
